The Tennis Midlands Professional Tennis Apprenticeship Programme is a training group within the International High Performance Programme specifically tailored to facilitate an effective transition from junior to senior tennis. The Pro Tennis Apprenticeship targets older junior players looking to leave full-time education to pursue a career in professional tennis.
The aim of this initiative is to provide aspiring professional players with quality coaching, training, sport science, and tournament travel experience as well as a better understanding of the levels of discipline, work ethic, and responsibility required to succeed at an elite level in the senior game. Many Pro Tennis Apprenticeship players are also enrolled on the AASE scheme.

Previous members of this initiative include British Davis Cup internationals Jamie Baker, Jonny Marray, and Daniel Evans, and GB international Samantha Vickers. Pro Tennis Apprenticeship players train and compete with, and alongside the Loughborough University student teams who won the 2009 European University Team Tennis Championships. Players on this programme compete regularly in Tennis Europe, ITF, British Tour, and Futures Events throughout the UK and abroad, travelling as a team when appropriate.
A typical daily schedule for Pro Tennis Apprenticeship players can include:
9-11am Squad Training
11-12pm Physical Conditioning
2-4pm Squad Training
4-5pm Corrective programme and injury prevention
Players are mentored by and have the option to pursue individual coaching with our team of tennis teaching professionals many of whom have extensive international playing experience. We consider the character development of our older junior players to be a moral responsibility and we actively encourage them to grow as independent, self-motivated, and self-sufficient young adults by providing opportunities for racket restringing, assistant coaching, and hitting/mentoring younger players.
If you would like to apply, please print off the application form below and return to Tennis Midlands. An interview will then be arranged.
